UPSC Online Photo & Signature Size Guide (Advt 11/2026)

The form opened on 12-09-2026 and closes at 18:00 hrs on 02-10-2026 (09-10-2026 for the UT of Ladakh post). The fee is ₹25; women, SC, ST and PwBD candidates are exempt.

What is the UPSC photo size?

The photo must be a JPG between 20 KB and 200 KB: recent, in colour, on a plain white background, with your face covering about three-quarters of the photo and both ears visible. Do not sign the photo. UPSC also captures a live photo and matches it with the one you upload, so use a recent picture that looks like you today.

1. Stand against a plain white wall in daylight, with no shadow behind you.
2. Look straight at the camera; keep hair away from your eyes and both ears visible.

What is the UPSC signature size and why three signatures?

UPSC asks you to sign three times, one below the other, in black ink on plain white paper, and upload all three as one JPG of 20-100 KB. The instructions say "350-500 pixels" but do not say whether that is the width or the height. Our tool makes a 400 x 500 px image, so both sides are close to that range.

• Use a black pen and plain white, unlined paper.
• Sign three times in a column, leaving a little space between each.
• Photograph or scan it flat in daylight, then crop so all three signatures fit.
• Check that the final JPG is between 20 KB and 100 KB.

Which documents do I upload as PDF for UPSC?

At registration you upload the 10th certificate as a PDF of 50-300 KB. In the application you upload a separate PDF for each claim: date of birth, category, qualification and experience. Do not upload pay slips, resumes or unsigned experience letters.

Why do UPSC photos get rejected?

UPSC lists these photo problems: face less than 3/4 of the photo, misaligned photo, blurred photo, too close with ears cut, dark background, uniform, dark glasses, shadows, hair over the eyes, glare, a signed photo, and a mismatch with the live photo.

Which UPSC photo and signature myths should I ignore?
