SSC CHSL 2026 Photo & Signature Size Guide

The SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) Examination 2026 notice (F. No. HQ-C1102/5/2026-C-1, dated 07-09-2026) is for about 2,536 posts (tentative). The biggest change for applicants is the photo: you do not upload a photo at all. It is captured live during the application. Only the signature is uploaded as a file. This guide explains both, with the exact limits from the notice.

What are the SSC CHSL 2026 photo and signature requirements?

The photo is a live capture (no file, no KB limit), and the signature is a scanned JPEG/JPG of 10-20 KB, about 6.0 cm wide and 2.0 cm high.

What are the SSC CHSL 2026 important dates and fee?

Apply from 7 Sep 2026 to 7 Oct 2026 (11 pm). The fee is ₹100, and women, SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates do not pay any fee.

You apply on ssc.gov.in (complete One-Time Registration first, then the CHSL application) or on the mySSC Android app.

Do I need to upload a photo for SSC CHSL 2026?

No. The notice says the photo is captured live through a webcam or the mySSC app while you fill the form, and that candidates are "not required to have a pre-existing photograph". So do not use a photo resizer for CHSL 2026. There is no photo file to upload, and the notice gives no pixel or KB size for the photo.

Be careful: taking a picture of an old printed photo (a "photo of a photo") during the live capture leads to rejection. Face the camera yourself.

• Sit in good, even light, for example facing a window in daytime.
• Use a plain, light background behind you.
• Keep the camera at eye level and your full face inside the frame.
• Look straight at the camera (full frontal view).
• Remove cap, mask and spectacles before capture.

What is the SSC CHSL 2026 signature size?

The signature must be a scanned JPEG/JPG between 10 KB and 20 KB, about 6.0 cm wide and 2.0 cm high (para 9.6 and Annexure-III). Annexure-IV of the same notice mentions 4.0 x 2.0 cm instead, so the notice is not consistent. It also gives no pixel size.

1. Sign in black or dark blue ink on plain white paper.
2. Scan it or photograph it flat in daylight, with no shadow.

Why do SSC CHSL applications get rejected?

The notice lists five main reasons: a photo not as per the specimen, a photo of a pre-existing photo, a blurred, very small or side-facing photo, a blurred, very small or unreadable signature, and fee not received. Applications without the fee are summarily rejected.

The notice says applicants who complete Aadhaar authentication are exempt from rejection on photo and signature grounds.

Which SSC CHSL photo and signature myths should I ignore?

Ignore any website or video that asks for a "350 x 450 px photo" or a "20-50 KB photo" for CHSL 2026. Those numbers are not in the CHSL 2026 notice. The photo is live capture only, and the only uploaded file is the 10-20 KB signature.
